Re: painful wisdom tooth (edit: it's out finally)

Been giving me grief for a few weeks now. Dentist doesn't want to take it out cause it's barely through the gum and he probably thinks i'll twit him if he hurts me. Been referred to have it done under sedation, but it takes 9-12 weeks to get a consultation appointment, then god knows how long after that. to go private they want lots of money which i don't want to pay!

I can't wait that long. it's at the stage where i can't open my mouth fully and the tooth is biting the inside of my face/gum if i try and eat normally. Although i could do with losing some weight, this is not the answer!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Drink whiskey. Especially by holding it on the bad part it desensitises the mouth and lets you sleep etc. Much better than pain killers and it also makes you happy...
If I'm against picketing, how do I show it?

been there and got a very painful t-shirt

2 impacted WT, 1 growing sideways and 1 which was infected.

Had all 4 out at the same time under anaesthetic, took the surgeon 1.5 hours and his foot on the side of the table to remove one of them

doors and bits of string aren't really the answer, have you seen the roots on those bad boys??!

dentists, dental surgeons and an appropriate amount of analgesia are. try oil of cloves as it is well known to relieve toothache.

oh.. and once you've had them removed you really won't be able to eat properly at all (soft foods only)... I looked like a hamster for two weeks and felt and looked very bruised..

well i have been blessed with good teeth so far. i have only ever had 1 filling and i'm 30. Never had a tooth pulled before let alone a wisom tooth.

i'm aware it'll hurt like a bastard afterwards but if i did have it done at the dentist under general anaesthetic will i feel much pain? my pain threshold is quite high as i'm constantly burning myself and doing stupid things like trapping my arm between a tyre and the wheel arch on a mk3

Different things work for different people. Strong black tea carries loads of anti oxidants which numb the pain, clove oil is good although it tastes like poop. Bi carbonate of soda also works. I have an impacted wisdom tooth and have already had a upper wisdom tooth out last year and it wasn't painful at all. Although I did spent the night prior wide awake worrying about it so the minute I lay down on that dentist chair with that big light shining in my face i was ready to fall asleep. Nicest tooth i've ever had out. Basically keeping your mouth clean as possible is always a good start, a good alchohol based mouth wash is a must. The sort of pain you have will be like a pressure pain and sore to the touch which is quite difficult to dull down. Pain killers with anti-inflammatory properties may help a bit.
