Not lighting up at all will fail now mate

This, MOT regulations have changed. As of 01/01/12 it will appear as an advisory if it does not light up, as of 01/04/12 it will be reason to fail.

I seeeee.... I knew it was coming didn't realise it was in as mine went straight thru not an advisory in sight, looks like I'll continue to use my friendly tester then pmsl sod poncing around with it, it goes it stops an is in great condition, shall we pencil in a date for my failed on abs not working Thread January next year lmao
Cheers for the update boys!!

yeah mine failed in november because the abs light came on...the dumbass who was doing the mot did not clear all the fault codes...apparently this is my responsibility..funny place..also came with lots of warnings that brakes are bad..blah blah blah...
my friend cleared the codes and then took the car back...guess what..no problems whatsoever...
i was joking when i said get rid of the abs...but the trick mentioned above is good..just switch for airbag...

soon they will fail the cars for having too old airbags...great...

the MOT system here is strange..they just need a light on and not know the reason for the failure and that's it...fail...

i'm lucky and my golf does not have abs.....on one of my volkswagens...the other one does have it...and that's why the car failed...

i feel for you...

don't go to halfords and just take it to someone who will take a look and tell you what needs changing....

the council mot place in guildfords is honest and will tell you exactly what is wrong...they don't do any repairs..so they aren't interested in making the car fail and will tell you what needs doing...the mot is full price...(around 53) but well worth it...

don't know if you have a  council run mot near you..really the government should have more of them...

don't go to halfords..i don't trust them whatsoever.

Thank fook someone else said it.... i was thinking it....

I hate ABS I Cant do it myself brakes, as such they are disabled...... pull the fuse man, she'll sail the mot....
An safety wise, if you brake right you can still pull up just as fast as a car with abs working....
few things,

1 you obviously never have had a car pull out on you or such like, i can gurentee you, abs or not, and if you think you can stop quicker on threshold braking, when some one or somehting jumps out in front of you, you will hit the brake as hard as you can, meaning your wheels would lock and you would skid much further then under abs control and itll happen so quick you wouldnt have enough time to think and react to come off the brake and reapply to the threshold before skidding again

2 abs will stop you quicker in the above circumstances, but on the other hand wont in a planned braking act, say for a hard corner took at speed due to the on and off braking. thus why racing cars etc dont/wont have abs

3 abs will give you the control to turn while having the brake pedel buried in the carpet. unlike non abs

and telling some one to disconnect it rather then have it fixed is rather foolish

not only that, when you lock your wheel the engine stalls, you have no engine braking, abs pumps fast so the engine also helps.

for me id much much rather have abs, for example doing 40mph down a lane, a car coming the other way going fast and nearly in middle of road round a corner, i brake and the inside wheel skids and locks so i nearly go in to the hedge and infact didnt even slow down much, with abs that wouldn't have happened and i could have also steered out if it did

you could always study cadence braking (so much better than abs!)

and regards our MOT being strange, try getting an mot in most other european countries (many are every 2 years) but they are super strict (In france you get no advisories, it's pass or fail and even very minor things will fail!)

which goes out the window when a child, dog, or a person, or even say a car out a t junction,

i can gurentee you 100% you would lock your brakes and skid. you may say (in a sarcastic voice) no i can brake very skilfully.
but in those almost sudden circumstances you have no chance over non-abs

I can assure you 7 years of bike racing & 12 years of road riding & driving, I have probably had just about every concievable occourance on the road happen, especially while dispatch riding in london, I dont like driver aid for a reason, Ive never had any of them actually help me, only hinder..... especially the esp on the mk 5 gti that was wank!! Howeve the one place i do agree with you abs does belong on the lorry, if  I had to brake up fast in the rigid & trailer on draw bar fully loaded I would definatley want help!!  as much as possible, I make my claims as my own opinion, i didnt ask for a lecture, you wont change my mind, and you certainly dont know what i have and havent happend, just as i havent a clue about you... ta.
x

I was meerly offering a means to get the op's car on the road with a years ticket & then he can resolve the problem when it suits him,
how is your post helping, especially when advising cornering with your foot buried in the carpet... abs or no abs thats going to land you in a ditch & shows that a driver is not reading the road ahead enough, braking should be done before the corner that way the suspension can deal with the cornering stresses alone not combined with braking forces thus causing loss of traction an vehicle stability......
