How would VW know how many "launches" you have done?

I suppose this gives the phrase - "there is no such thing as a free launch" a whole new meaning!

Is it true that VW warranty only cover 3 launches or is that just an urban legend?

I don't believe that for a second, they wouldn't take all that design and effort for it to be a use three times and nothing else.  How would new owners know how manyntimes its been done?

The temp was 93c. With the weather being so cold at the moment, even after an hour of driving it's struggling to get over 90c. Looks like I'll have to wait a month or two before screaching off at the lights!!

But in all seriousness - when do people actually use this "launch" mode? I can imagine the noise it makes, combined with a fair bit of spin is slightly embarrassing. I'm still too self conscious to use the car in "sport" mode, as the screech of the revs as it changes gear on 7000rpm just makes me look as if I don't know how to change gear on a manual car!

As you can guess, I'm not a boy racer!  :nerd:

I used it only when i had 4 wheel drive, in my R32. No tyre spin, and the noise was the main reason i did it!

It is slightly wasted on FWD unless its bone dry out there.

I actually managed to do it!

Despite not making much noise at 3000rpm, when I took my foot off the brake and sped off - it was making a hell of a lot of noise by the time it changed up to the next gear on 8000rpm! I'm glad no-one was around

I didn't think it was working, until I looked at the speedo and I was already doing 110kph!!  Don't think I'll be doing this at the lights, but I might have a little go now and again when I don't think anyone is watching/listening!

This is untrue. I asked this before I had my ED30 and the dealer said as Launch control is stated in the drivers manual and there is no warnings there is no issue.

Not checked my Mk6 drivers manual but if this was an issue there would be something on net about it. I used LC on my ED30 less than 10 times in the 3 years I had it and only used it once on my Mk6. It's a bit of a gimmick but fun all the same.

I wished I knew about the launch control when I went to Santa Pod! I was holding it on the handbrake with little revs....Damn. Going to try it soon.

Total urban legend

They tell you how to do it in the official owners handbook, with no warnings about frequency

You need to try it - it can actulaly be used very tamely if you want.

You don't have to plant your right foot and can ease off once 30mph or 40mph is attained.

It's just as if you were in a manual car,  wanting a quick getaway.

I use it at traffic lights sometimes if I'm in the mood and some chav pulls up alongside in a Corsa or something.   AWD and launch combined is awesome    It gets over the slight turbo lag as you don't start at 800rpm
