timing dizzy wont move far enough!
« on: 06 February 2012, 20:42 »
I did the cambelt a few weeks ago on my 8v mk2 digi, i marked all the belts and refitted new belt. All seemed fine at the time but now the car has been pinking for a few weeks finally twigged why doh!

nyway i got my timing light out and its way off managed to get it a little better but i cant find thetdc mark as the dizzy hits the block as far as i can turn it, my only explanation is i have knocked it a tooth out leading to the dizzy being in the wrong place? any help would be appreciated,

I take it i should redo engine timing again or can i change rotor arm 180 degress? thanks in advance
i must buy a new car!

you can move the plug leads round 1 position    to bodge and scarper it
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

nice thought but that might get confusing, that is asssuming they are in the right order already, so will my dizzy be 180 out on the oil pump? or i guess it wouldnt run at all then! il recheck timing and then do dizzy timing again, thnks again

It wouldnt run at all I dont think. Just undo it all and re-fit belt. Not a big job and saves bodging it

so took it to the garage today as havent got the time to sort it right now, bloody charged me 60 quid to f**k it up, they left the idle too high and the belt too tight and once i had adjusted it, it started to cut out and buck and jump when cold, they said the intermediate shaft was about 5 or 6 teeth out, so it must be close i am not sure why its running lumpy it was better before, dont you sometimes think you wish you had done it yourself!

i am going to check with my timing gun in the morning, cheers

There is a mark on the intermediate shaft.
