so took it to the garage today as havent got the time to sort it right now, bloody charged me 60 quid to f**k it up, they left the idle too high and the belt too tight and once i had adjusted it, it started to cut out and buck and jump when cold, they said the intermediate shaft was about 5 or 6 teeth out, so it must be close i am not sure why its running lumpy it was better before, dont you sometimes think you wish you had done it yourself!

i am going to check with my timing gun in the morning, cheers

How come you paid if it runs like a bag of sh!t?

Because i drove it away fine they obviously could not be arsed to test drive it or unplug the blue coolant sensor! Its back there now so fingers crossed.

Update got it back and he said he ended up tuning it by feel, it now drives ok but im sure it is still pinking unless its an exhaust manifold rattle, however. It cuts out once started cold and ildes fine once warmed up a few seconds.
He said the distributor was worn the weight on it or something so do i need a new dizzy to set the idle properly? or how do i check the blue coolant sensor or the knock sensor? Thanks

It doesnt have a knock sensor and there is little point in checking the blue coolant sensor, you may as well replace it at they are about a 5er from vw. New dizzy isnt difficult either, just pop it off and the arm pops off too.

Yeah I change a dizzy no probs, blue sensor is about 12 quid plus VAT and knock sensor is definitely part of the Digi system, thanks for your help.
