BP Ultimate or Tesco Momentum 99 ?
« on: 03 February 2012, 10:28 »
Gutted !!!!!!! My local Shell (and the only one anywhere near by) has changed to a BP overnight

So when my GTI arrives, I have the choice of BP Ultimate or Tesco Momentum 99. I believe Tesco is better as it's 99 RON vs BP'S 97 RON, although I f**king hate Tesco !! I don't think it's Tesco's fuel I believe they buy it from someone else, so I guess that makes it ok. Interested to know what people would use if they had the choice of BP Ultimate or Tesco 99 ?

The car is going to be mapped.

Why oh why has Shell changed to BP .. gutted!  :embarassed:

Cheers,
Scott

My local Shell station has changed too but not a company I have seen before. Luckily there is another Shell nearby so it won't be to much of a problem. However I share your concerns. I have never put Tesco fuel in so I can't comment but I wouldn't on principle as I hate Tesco.

I have used BP ultimate in my GTI and it does go just as well but the fuel consumption drops by about 3 mpg when I do. I always try and use V-Power but on a European trip I did last year I didn't always have that choice and tried various 98 octan rated petrol and all had no effect on performance but all were worse on mpg. Therefore I can say that Shell suits the GTI better than others from my experience.
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

I've heard that Tesco Momentum has additives in it to bring it up to the high RON.  I've spoke to a number of people such as REVO and Superchips and they are of the View BP Ultimate is better than Momentum.

I use Ultimate but will use Shell V-Power too.

Tesco 99 proved to be the better/best fuel when tested iirc... cannot remember the source though.

I wouldnt touch Ultimate. Although someone who works with oil/refinery stated that momentum fuel is exactly the same as V-power as it comes from the same refinery.

Why wouldn't you touch Ultimate? I use it every fill up and have done over a year with no issues.

Yea the MK5 engine used to need Super Unleaded but the MK6 is fine on standard unleaded.

That's what assumed from the fuel flap as it says Min 95 RON whereas the MK5 said Min 98 RON
