19" I'm looking at for my size.

Is there anything else worth looking at second hand for about £300?

GT Avalanche?

Found this

http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1180069/

Reckon it's worth going to view?  Listing seems honest.  £1,400 bike when it was new.

That Kona looks like it might be worth checking out.

Are Cube any good?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/cube-ltd-pro-20-hardtail-mountain-bike-rockshox-reba-shimano-xt-stroker-ryde-/190726210944?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item2c682b0580&_uhb=1#ht_1132wt_1120

Cube are a bit of a new comer but are priced at a premium so that seems a decent price (especially if you offer 400). I would steer clear of Kona's for now, they used to be the premium DH bike but have lost that and since then haven't really picked up with anything. If you want to keep things suuuuper simple you want to be looking at either specialized or giant xc oriented bikes with an asking price of 500 that you can barter down to 400. Hope this helps buddy as it is a complete mine field, dont worry about asking again and again as its the only way.

Offered them £400 and my old bike (which isn't really worth much).  See what they say.

Crossing my fingers.  tis one of the nicest bikes I've seen so far.

You can get 203 post mount adapters, I had to when I changed from Fox forks to Rockshock

Post Adapter

IS Adapter

Hey Steve, the links don't work?
The forks are XC30 with 74mm post mounts.  Can I go from 203mm IS to post mount brakes then and keep the same size disc?  Don't want to go any bigger on the disc or it'll look daft.

Both links work fine here, takes you to Chain Reaction Cycles.
Yes you can go from 203mm IS mount to 203mm Post mount just by buying the correct adapter. Dont think you can go much bigger than 203mm discs.
