I too had to question the use of the term "engineer"

Great looking car by the way. Keep those monza shadows wrapped up safely in your loft. They'll make a nice change one day, when everyone else has changed theirs for something aftermarket due to the inevitable white worm.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Nice one pal; I really love the subtle bits on Ed35's and judging by photos Ive studies (:nerd:) both top and bottom front grilles and chin bit are gloss black. Been debating if I should get mine sprayed gloss blk as well as my mirror casings. Going into see dealer 1st thing Monday, so might ask if they can do it...but it HAS to be done in time for blast off on Saturday!

Mate

This is a great thread and as said before it really is a great tribute!

Those sills dont look right to me at all, if your dealer is any good they'll give you a copy of the fitting instructions. Your car looks mint mate and if i were you i'd get a couple of layers of wax on it cos the 'little black spots' will do your head in, ha ha!

Cheers pal

Had a white Ford Escort many moons ago. Luv'd it to bits and spent every weekend washin/polishin, so I'm really lookin forward to doin it all over again.
Those sill trims are now DOIN MY 'ED IN! I feel like bangin on dealers door right now and shoutin in a Harry Enfield kinda voice; "OI NUMPY! GET THOSE TRIMS OFF NOWWWWWWWWWWW"!...... well it beats watchin stupid dancin on ice

In all seriousness, i'm watchin this thread with great interest for obvious reasons and enjoying all the comments. This is my first ever VW and i want it to be just right.

Senario; Wish dad could be here to see it all happenin. He was into his horses and carriages and owned a couple of ponies. Now I PMSL every time I think of his 2 horse power v GTI's 210. I can see him now, puttin me right that his horses would be far more reliable, cheaper to run and would give plenty of muck for the roses! Poor old boy had dementure and as sad as the disease is, there were always some really funny times so it would have been hillarious tryin to put him right and explainin the difference! Sorry to ramble on.....

enjoy the car. nice that something good could come out of the situation and you get something he would approve of and you can take pride in and enjoy.

pretty similar to you, i got my GTI 4 months ago after a pretty significant moment in my life. so i though 'sod it - I've always fancied one so why not?' walked in the dealership and came out with a brand new car.

i won't sell it as its pretty symbolic in my life now!

by the way get them side strips off and wrap them round the dealers neck.

VW PDI seems a joke. ALOT of new GTI owners have stories to tell unfortunately, me included

Sorry to read about your dad.
I know lots of owners in the USA have fitted these sill trims and they all have OCD so if they were like that they would have went nuts. Somethings not right.
Try a photo search on google for golf mk6 door trims or something like that and see if yours are fitted correctly.
