My standard mk4 1.8t averages 24mpg all around town and shortish jouneys

But can't better 30mpg at a steady 65mph on the motorway.Normal 80's drops it to the late 20's

So consider yourselfs luucky i've only got 150bhp aswell :P

27MPG is a million time better than what MK4/5 R owners got ;)

I would average 24mpg.. if thats all the R owners are getting, then I would rather pay the extra 3mpg just for the sound

The best I have had is 49.7mpg out of it - a steady 60mph from Glasgow to Ayr on cruise control.

In fact, for one portion of the journey (around 15 minutes driving after just filling up with fuel, the on board computer read 62.1 mpg but that soon disappeared.

Overall average though, is about 34mpg as I do a lot of very short journeys and also can't resist putting my foot down.

This is the best I have got in mine.

Overall average is 34 MPG, including a commute of 4 miles each way in the week and seeing 22 mpg being stuck in traffic every night.

That compares to overall 31 MPG in my mk5 with much more motorway miles in my commute.

Really impressed with that! I reckon I'll break 42 within the next month.
