you may want to read the article in the maint section. and im 100% 0 40w is the incorrect oil for the engine.

1.8T:

For the 1.8T vw recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil. This should confirm to Vw 504 00 or 507 00. Castrol longlife III is the approved oil.

The 1.8T will take 4.35 litres of engine oil.

Weak spot:
The 1.8T MUST use fully synthetic oil, and be changed at the correct service intervals, use of the wrong oil can cause the oil pick up to block up and the the oil pump to seize causing catastrophic loss of oil pressure and engine failure.

* NOTE * DO NOT USE Engine Flush!!

1.8T oil filter part no: 06A115561B  £5 +VAT

Sump Plug: N90813202 £1.08 + VAT

There has been a lot of differant oils recomended by some VW dealers read this topic:

I would strongly recommend a visit to your dealer to see which oil thay recommend for your 1.8T engine. (Give them your reg no and all your cars info will come up on the screen)

Some forum members use and recommend SYNTA GOLD 5W-40 fully synthetic which vw sell :
VW part no: AZGB 115 QLB 00 421 £24.36 +vat. This oil, oil filter ,sump plug comes to £35.79 all in from VW.

**EDIT**
Synta Gold - VW have replaced it with:

Quantum Platinum 5W-40 - £24.06/£27.67 for 5 litres
Part number - VZGB 115 QLB 00 551 036A

Very fussy engines with oil.

All I would ever use on a 1.8T is Quantum Platinum 5W-40, stock power or 450+bhp.

10W 40 is not fully synthetic, only part synthetic.    Use 5w 40 or 0w 40 . I blame the 10w 40 oil doing my turbo oil seals . castrol magnitec sucks, for are cars.
