Again, where is the air being forced in or out though?

The wheel is not changing volume, it's just changing shape. Any thing causing friction will be noisey to a certain degree anyway.

Agree with this to be honest..

Arent they just run flats without the dressing?

This. they were only missing the sidewall when on the car to demonstrate the technology in action iirc, these photos are a few years old now anyhoo.

This is not what a run flat looks like.

This is a run flat

i think they look good once the cars moving, but i bet they are noisy on a motorway, ive had wing mirrors whistle at speed when summits come loose so i bet these would howl at high speeds.

but if they went into production there would be a sidewall fitted (a stone or anything picked up by them fins could become a missile) so that would cure the noise

OMG could you imagine how sh*t they would look with side walls!!!.. Bye bye low profile tyres then.. these would look like you're running 12" wheels with a 90 profile!

I would imagine an actual production item would have sidewalls of some description even if just a dressing or basic protection.  A few clags of much wedged up in there would upset the balance of wheel.

This design concept has been around for a while now.

I would expect it's major flaw would be relatively small rim diameter which would still allow the ribs to be effective which would restrict the size of brakes used on a vehicle.

Yeah i've got them all and they're always on 40d but when I start watching them I pretty much end up watching them back to back!

Yeah they have been around for a while but it's rumoured that we may see a consumer version in 2012!???

I want a set just to look odd but would want an open side wall version, even if its just for show
