Another update for you lot on my claim – or should I say farce …

First of all I've not had any claims experience with other companies, but I cannot stress how poor Tesco Insurance have performed with my claim and would NEVER recommend them to anyone!

Finally almost a month later the right department has got my paperwork and things will hopefully get started. They still have not contacted my 2 witness, so more written correspondence and more delays; luckily I work in the IT department of a Call Centre (fairly high up too) and have access to the call recording software. This means I've got an MP3 of every inbound or outbound call made whilst I'm at work and boy does it look like I need them!

Every conversation you get a different version of events or need to speak to a different department; OK that may be the case quite legitimately but from the inconsistencies in the phone calls they just donÂ’t have a clue - organisation must be a swear word in their offices!! Notes being made on the claim I have no knowledge of that really should require discussion, then no notes from some very in-depth conversations which results in important information not being recorded!

The next farce is the valuation - the engineer is allowed to agree a valuation and Tesco will then make it's deductions posting a cheque without talking to me at all. I can contest the value once it's received, but I bet thatÂ’s never successful as youÂ’ve banked the first amount.

If I hadn’t made a pest of myself phoning ever few days to get on update I’d never have found this out till a cheque had arrived on my doorstep – I think that’s disgusting! I promptly told them that they were not to send any funds until I was happy with the valuation; when asked what’s there SLA with things like this was I was told 10 – 14 working days FFS!!

Well IÂ’ve barely scratched the surface with the details, but hopefully I said enough to warn anyone off Tesco Insurance - plus I do feel better for a bit of a rant 

At the moment despite having 10 examples of good condition to show level Mk2Â’s ranging from £1895 to £3500 to help get the ‘market rateÂ’ IÂ’m left with £1000 minus a £350 excess till the litigation is sorted, a further £150 in remaining monthly payments – even then those of you who read my accident report will be horrified to hear that they think IÂ’ll have to take total responsibility as I was pulling out despite all the circumstances which is again more frustration.

All my hard work and love in restoring my beloved Mk2 nearly ended in £500 in my account and no transport – oh and I paid £500 a year for the privilege too what great service Â….

Disagree with VR, agreed valuation is the way to go. But then you only know how good the policy is when the unfortunate happens. Sorry to hear that David, it is robbery. Keep persisting mate, speak to someone there and keep onto them. Be polite and don't lose it. That should go a long way.

david really sorry to hear mate as it looks a sweet car.

Insurance companies are mostly members of GISC which is general insurance standards council. You are experiencing very poor service and I assume if they are paying out then you were fully comp insured. I would suggest that next time your on the phone mention your disatisfaction and that due to them taking over a month to pay out on a fully comp  policy that you will be contacting them with your complaint.
Any complaint investigated by GISC costs the insurance company money and alot more than the value of your car. I wouldnt be surprised if all of a sudden your complaint is passed onto a manager or team leader to resolve.

If you do need to use your taped conversations as evidence you need to tell the company involved you are recording the conversations as they do to you as if you dont anything said on the tapes is not admissable, from your copies although as they say there calls are recorded you can demand copies of them.

You can also request copies of all documented corespondence  they hold about you so if anyone has written anything about you or the case that can be see as personal opion they are again wide open.

Goood luck with it. I had a major proble three yrs ago when my Mk3 driver was written off by me I was with adrian flux and they were useless offered 750 for my driver in the end I got 2500 for it.

Re your mods if the assessor hasnt seen it yet get it changed back to standard as they will not pay out as you havent informed them of the mods and you could end up paying for the damage to the BMW as you wouldnt have been insured, plus matybe even getting a LN10 on your liecence for no insurance.

but on a lighter note for me. 5 yrs ago I wrote off my first golf a Mk2 driver with 180 thousand on the clock, it was a three door in black and looked like a gti. The assoor came when I wasnt home. I rang the cpompany and was given a fgigure of 1200 only when I looked at the assors notes did I see he thought it was a gti lol. so they do F@ck up too
