OK what did i forget to do? RNS-510 + Mk6 GTI coding

A standard 2010 GTI with only factory options of xenons and sunroof.

Just tried to retrofit the RNS-510 and failed. :embarassed:



After installing the satnav i tried to code it as shown in this thread

I did, i think, as instructed in that thread.


I ticked the navigation in the can gateway instalation list and saved it.

Then went into controler 37 navigation

NOTE BELOW ARE NOT MY SCREEN SHOTS BUT THE ONES FROM THE HOW TOO..
Byte 0 bit 1, 2 and 3 (all not ticked, (maybe the aux one should be?).

Byte 1 sound system not installed


Byte 2 04 front and rear speakers installed


Byte 3 unticked mic diagnostics as was ticked.


Byte 4 04 speaker monitoring front and rear


Byte 5 equalisation linear



Byte 7 bit 1,2,3 & 7 all unticked. 5-6 premium selected.

Then clicked 'do it'

media player is normally the MDI kit IIRC. Do you have that installed?

Snoopy it must be something obvious as I had to borrow Vag.com so didn't know my way around it and it literally took me 5 minutes from plugging the cable into the car and i'm not that computer literate.

From what I remember in Byte 0 you need to tell it you have MDI.

In Byte 7 bit 0 you need to tell it you have the Multi Function Steering Wheel.

I noted the setting for the RCD310 before i started.
Byte 0 bit 1 was ticked.
Byte 1 bit 0-7 00sound system not installed
byte 3 bit 0 stop press buttons (not ticked)
         bit 1 telephone prep (not ticked)
         bit 6 backup camera (not ticked)
Byte 5 bit 0-7 03 treble speakers monitored

So i was not sure if quick buttons for the wheel should be selected or not  :undecided:

byte 0 - Aux input monitoring ticked, other two not
byte 1 - 00 no sound sstem installed
byte 2 - 04 4 speaker channels
byte 3 - microsphone diagnostics ticked, no tick for backup camera...yet
byte 4 - 04 Speaker monitoring
byte 5 - 00 Eualisation liner
byte 6 - 00
byte 7 - nothing ticked even with MFSW, except bit 7 (communication instrument cluster etc)
byte 8 - 00 - no ticks

Darren said to also try changing byte 7.

Changed  Byte 7
Bit 0 Shart press steering buttons installed ticked
bit 7 bapinstrument cluster  protocol ticked

Did a reset of the satnav <> + star  (did not seem to do anything but must have done something after holding it for 20 seconds)

Then cleared fault codes.

Now after a few more trys left with.

Geoff if the unit did not reset i.e turn off and back on usually takes around 20-30 seconds then its not reset,

Press < > together then while holding them press the star button not altogether at the same time.

It seems the Media In isn't speaking to the RNS you may need to just check the blue plug on the RNS is properly seated.

Clear the faults on the gateway aswell mate,

Ive had a look at both our gateways and navigations has both our cars are similar...I cannot make anything out that is untowards.
