All that is required is a FTDI based USB OBD cable that works in "dumb" mode.

Tested supported cables:
-eBay USB VAG KKL using the FTDI D2XX standard driver
-Ross-Tech HEX-KEY-CAN using the Ross-Tech FTDI D2XX driver ("boot in intelligent mode" must be unchecked in the VCDS options screen)
-Any dumb OBDII cable using the FTDI USB chip

I thought I'd read somewhere it could be done from vagcom with some models. If for no other reason will research this now! I would love to try little steps at time....hmm

ive been trying to find out about adding 12v feed to the m3.3 and what software to use, i got cheap ebay software but again, wouldnt touch it..

take a copy of what you have before you write over it.   

tuneing is much more intresting when your experimenting and not exactly sure what will happen,  once you know it works and what will happen its rather more boreing

isnt that the hard part with some ecu`s?.. are some write only or something? i`m not sure if that what "dumb".. means.
as for experimenting, it would be nice to have the equiptment.. could probably do logging with vag com or is a wideband 02 sensor needed?.. and then, how do i hold the car at certain load points, left foot braking and burn them out?..lol
makes me even more limited having an agu 
i have a galetto, vagcom and vag tacho lead to play with but would rather leave the ecu alone until i have a decent tool to do it.. then if i can get better at it, nicks life will be easier when i come for tweaks hopfuly...

Theres sooo much to thing about though.  Not a simple case of upping the boost and the fuelling and hoping it works.  Its knowing where to make the right increases in the software and how far to go.  Then what axis you have adjusted effects what else.
