Time to get something from my engine!!
« on: 15 November 2011, 09:45 »
Hi; I have a 1.8 Gti (n/a) [125bhp] and im now looking to push some power/torque from the engine;
my aim is to get her remapped but before that I wish to make some changes to get as much gain as possible.

I been told I can;
upgrade to green-top injectors,
K&N air filter/ cold air induction kit,
Sport cat/ straight through exhaust,
FSE boost gauge(this is a maybe),

If fitting the first 3 mentioned in opinions would I see much gain not as in bhp but in acceleration?
then the fact i would get the remap would this be beneficial? thanks !!

Alright mate, I'm not a expert but personally I wouldn't spend to much on tryin to
Improve the performance as without a turbo the gains won't be that great, best idea would be to tune the handling and maybe a panel filter to let it breath a bit better.

+1 on the above, If you want performance buy a 1.8t or drop in 1.8t in your current car  :wink:
If you want the most out of your car I wouldnt expect great gains but if your happy with that then im sure a tuner will be able to improve many things on a N/A car,  Your car may have flat spots through out the rev range I bet a tuner can improve this.

Its upto what you wanna do with it mate, Granted it may cost alot of money for very little gain but its your car and your money  :smiley:
1.6-1.8t AGU K03s, Forge actuator, Forge 007p, turbo back exhuast, Ths front mount, Catch can, 5 piece silicone boost pipes and creation sports tip. Stage 2 atm 232bhp 270lbs. Waiting for custom mapping :-)

most youde see from a remap is about 10 bhp, if your lucky. :D

personally next time you service it ide stick a panel filter in and drill out the air box so the air flows a little better.

if you want real performance proberbly the best thing you can do is new cams or a turbo, either will be expensive, ide work on handeling and styling, if you really want speed then your going to have to spend big £

3/4 bhp is closer to the mark.

get high comp pistons, ITB`s, cams, forged con-rods, crank ect then remap... should see some nice gains.. will cost a fortune though..  :tongue: different, but not really worth it!

ok so that that out the window ha, just checked and found that to upgrade to a 1.8T would only be 100 extra on insurance! so 800 for a 19year old isn't to bad no?, however I put blood sweat and tears into her as had problems when brought her, (running fine now), and the heated leathers seats I cannot live without; so if I was to go with a Conversion to a 1.8T would I have to state the insurance as replacement engine other than standard or as standard as its still a golf gti engine? also ino its a lot of work for a conversion but how much would it cost for me to do as I can get a AUM with 50k for 600? would I need to change all parts such as brakes, chassis and ect...?  thanks guys!!

Out of interest. who you insured with? Lowest i can get is 1300 and im 19 with a 1.8na

As fot things needing changing quite alot of things are the same. liks the breaks i belive so could possibly be just engine and gear box. however i could be wrong (most likely am :D )
