has anyone noticed the OE scissor jack would damage the undersell on the sill seam if it was to be used or is it just my car!?


i always use my trolly jack when working on my car but if i had to use the scissor jack in an emergency on the roadside it would probably do a fair bit damage to the underside protection. a stupid design IMO.



as for the jacking using a trolly jack i have bought a hockey puck which i will cut a slot in for the strengthen seam to fit into to offer some protection.

I've jacked the front of mine up with the supplied jack and it didn't do any damage, although i wouldn't like to use it very often. :smiley:

This may be a stupid question and please don't take it the wrong way but you are looking at it the right way up aren't you? The reason i ask that is the part that touches the car is grooved so it doesn't lift on the seam so shouldn't damage it.

the open slot on my scissor jack isn't wide enough to fit over the sill due to the amount of sealant on there. if i tried to lift the car it would just rip the sealant off.

i have seen them lift pads a few times and they look good. i may get a set but the hockey puck method works too

Ah i see, sorry bud. Mine went over the sealant, you could see where it went but didn't damage it.

i think what i will need to do is grind the slot in the scissor jack maybe 5mm wider to go over the sealant otherwise if i ever get a flat tyre its going to be a nightmare!

bought a set of these from the audi dealers (vw wouldn't sell me them)

£22 for the set of 4 (8 parts). should make jacking the car up a lot easier in the future.

Teutonic_Tamer used the Audi TT version of the lift pads were i used the S3 ones as shown in my link earlier, IMO the S3 ones are much better as you don't loose the cover at the front. Its not that your VW dealer would not sell them to you, they simply cannot, as they are listed on the system as brand inhibited, so they are not allowed and cannot order them.
