At the risk of sounding like an old man yes you should have used the search function. Found this link in a thread after 30 seconds of looking - http://www.mk6golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,81.0.html

If you dont want to take on the task yourself any VAG garage worth its salt will be able to do it for you.

Snoopy was the most recent person on here to purchase the rear lights, from memory.

Yours may well be okay, but some 09 cars (like my previous mk6) get a bulb out light in the dash even after VCDS coding. You quickly get used to it but it is a nuisance none the less.
Mine was one of the launch cars though and I'm not aware of too many that had the issue.

Mmmm thats my fear,  a bulb out light or any light for that matter would negate the benefits of having them for me as a bit of a perfectionist.

If only there was a 100% way of knowing either way. :undecided:

I guess I should have done some additional homework before buying the car then i would have been aware of these subtle differences,  the fact is I was blown away by the cars looks and stance when I saw it at a BMW franchise whilst in for a service, little did I know things could get better.

Oh well I got if for a good price so I'll have to keep investigating unless someon pops along with a definative answer

What age is your GTI?
Mine is April 2010 and had no issues with the coding, once I finally got the correct coding for factory Xenons and LED rears.
I guess if your car has the same controller as mine, or newer, it will be OK.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Where in the country are you Spin?
The midlands,  live near Ashby De La Zouch.

Car is a July 2009 so could well be a launch model.

VCDS scan is the only way 100% confirm the situation. However, if the car is on an 09 plate and doesn't have Xenon's 99% of the time it will require a CEM upgrade to support LED rears from my experience.

My car is an early car too and needed a new BCM, I purchased one that supported LED rears. It cost £90 and I purchased it from eBay.de  SteveP then very kindly switched my BCM over and everything is working perfectly.

Cheers,
