16v turns over but will not fire... Help please

Hi all

Just gone back to my car to get home and it won't start;(
Turns over but will not fire up, checked plug leads, dizzy cap nothing loose etc
Anything else to look at, don't want to leave it in the car park where it is currently stuck

Fuel pump buzzing when turning the ignition on?

yes its doing that

When was the last time it was started/used?

went to work, back home then down to a cricket match, turned it off about 12.15pm, tried to start at 17.30... and no joy

Engine earth, immobiliser, has the distributor got any signs of oil below the rotor arm?  Has it got a spark?

not checked engine earth tbh,immobilzer is switching on/off ok,nothing below rotor arm that i notice, spark not sure, it was pissing down here so tried a few things then got a lift home while the offer was there so left the car in a car aprk

whats easiest way to check for spark?? in the dark on my own
