VW major service garage damage calipers - Help
« on: 23 August 2011, 19:33 »
Hey guys first post on here - have watched the forum for a while!

Took my pride and joy (2008 Edition 30) into the garage today for a major servicing having just reached 45000 miles.

Having booked in for the full package - Major service plus brake fluid change. (also bought next years minor service +mot for an extra £100)

However got a call from the garage saying that they had stripped the thread on the two rear brake calipers, meaning replacement was required at nearly £500. I did argue the toss with them and got offered 40% off due to FSH/ only just being out of warrently.

Any thoughts??

Yes. Escalate it and demand that they replace and repair them. It was their fault, therefore they are liable.

Demand a courtesy car until it is fixed. Oh and regardless of what happens, get VWUK customer services involved.

Sorry they stripped the threads? If they haven't been touched since thy left the factory I'd be telling them to FRO and replace them at their cost.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Yes car has only ever been serviced at this garage (eurocanterbury) bar one minor service at a Bromley. I havent checked the log book but I seem to remember the brake fluid was changed at a previou service - can anyone confirm as it has followed the log book.

Only got informed of the issue at 4pm when I was due to pick the car up at 4.30, so didnt have alot of time to think through the issue. The service salesman - mentioned that it may have been due to previous over tightening of the bleed valves.

I asked them to get a replacement set of red calipers on order and now I have a lovely 1.2 polo courtesy car ;-( until this issue is resolved - as they couldnt show me the damaged calipers due to the car being on the floor with the wheels on.

Any tips and advice as I wasnt sure if I had a leg to stand on.....

They broke it, they fix it.

Your car went it with working callipers, then it should return to you with working callipers
