can i use t -cut ?
« on: 16 April 2005, 11:26 »
well my 5 year old son decided he'd wash the car this morning and spent along time rubbing on some bird droppings - end result as expected i took the car to be washed properly.

when i got home and it dryed off to my horror the paintwork is all marked where the bird mess was.

it is mk4 standard black colour- can i use t cut to rectify or will it ruin whats left of the paint. i'm not sure if it's a metallic paint or not. i've been told in the past you shouldn't tcut met paint?
help !

try turtle wax color polish and plenty of elbow grease first  this should get rid of most of it if its not too deep

With a metallic you have a base coat and lacquer paint system. As long as the damage is light and not throught the lacquer you should be able to polish out the scratches with T cut. The danger is if you compound it too much you could cut through the lacquer to the base coat thereby losing your gloss finish in that one spot. So, you can give it a try but go easy and don't remove too much lacquer........from what you have described I would have thought the damage would be easily removed with T cut.

Like richandhazel says you have to be very careful with T-cut.  I always use Mer and it does a great job of getting rid of marks and sh!te

The non metallic is just called black, the metallic is called diamond black pearl effect, you can tell by looking close up, if it looks like its got 'sparkly' bits in it then its the metallic, if not then it should just be base colour black.

I used the gentle tcut colour restorer stuff on my last MK4 which was non metallic and had to stop as it dulled the paint finish really easily.

it sounds like you've only washed it.. as said above give it a good waxing with plenty of elbow grease on the marked areas... you'll be suprised the difference it makes.
