Recently used a new polish from Autoglym called Ultra Deep Shine its really good stuff but not cheap (£11.99) but it will buff out little scratches with a bit of elbow grease and is specially designed for dark cars and new paint. The bad thing is if you do that little bit you'll have to do the whole car !

Ive used t-cut colour fast (the ones that match the colour plaint)
Birds are forever using my car as a toliet, and i found that it works quite well to get rid of marks.

T Cut update
i used yesterdays fantastic weather to re wash the car. and decided to try out your advise
i used t cut for black cars and it got rid of the bird cr@p scratches no probs !
only trouble is i ended up doing the whole car- very addictive - but what a result the car is looking great !
