Stupid question, will this mod fail an MOT???
« on: 12 April 2005, 13:56 »
If I change my grill on my MK2 GTI from a 4 lamp to a 2 lamp grill, will the MOT station fail the car due to the inner lamps being removed??

As they always try to fail my car for not having side indicators, even though 84 mk2's didn't have them fitted on the A plate like mine

You can remove the inner lights and it won't fail the MOT

Cool, as im starting to like the look of the 3 bar grill with the inner spots removed, or as 1 MOT station said "they are Fog lights"

Stupidly I replied, If they are fog lights why do they only come on when the Full beam is on & NOT when the fog light switch is pressed

I'm probably going to get this round the wrong way but what the hell. With the mk1 campaigns, they were fog lights, otherwise they should be spot lights that come on with the main beam.

Either way I'm pretty certain you don't have to have them fitted for the MOT. Now rear fog lights, thats a different kettle of fish all together and you will need that for the MOT.

My mk2 was standard with a single head light grill, so are lost of drivers so no problems, i bet the MOT place won't even notice!!

Our MOT man is quite good, will see how good in June when the Caddy Kreg will have no side repeters and no cat!!

Mine are inner spots and dont come on with the fog light switch and can only be used on full beam anyway so should not be required for the MOT.

Rich, I haven't got a cat and mines a J plate. I think K/L was the cusp, cats were legal from '94ish I think.  :undecided:
......now officially dubless.
