Paul, I thought it was 1992, but I stand to be corrected. Has yours never had a cat, or has it been removed?

My 91 Polo has a cat fitted but when it packs up I doubt I'll replace it.........probably take a trip to powerflow

Yup Rich, you are right 1992 -----> http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_transstats/documents/page/dft_transstats_507875.hcsp#P397_15751

Here's the snippet -

1992
Speed enforcement cameras introduced at permanent sites.
All new goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes to be fitted with 60mph limiters.
Minimum tyre tread depth of 1.6mm is introduced.
Catalytic converters fitted to all new petrol engined cars.
Toyota comes to Britain, producing cars in Derbyshire.

Mine never had a cat as far as I know, it was registered in December 1991 though.
......now officially dubless.

Be suprised if it is. Front end of a mk2 is very different to a mk1. Can you not remove all the front end i.e top panel, grill etc....to gain better access to the engine?

I just had it in my mind that a J plate should have a cat. Obviously that is the cut off year and later J plates will have one.

Mix, some mk1 cabs and mk2s were K (92/93) and very, very rare but they also did mk1 cabs on L reg (93/94) so they may have needed a cat if introduced after 1992, whether that means registered or built after 1992 to need a cat, I'm not sure.  :undecided:

CATs "should" be standard fitment on anything J plate and above if sold in the UK. They "Should" be fitted for an MOT, but if you're car can pass the emissions without it they probably won't notice.
