Hi all,
I’m a relatively new poster to the forum but have been reading for a while now. I have introduced myself in a previous thread (
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=194613.msg1817745#msg1817745), but here is a quick summary:-
I do not currently own a Golf.
I have a Passat as a company car.
Currently working on secondment in Germany (near Stuttgart).
As you can see from my previous post, I will be returning to the UK at the end of August/beginning of September 2012, at which point I will be in the market for a new car.
I have never been in the fortunate position to purchase a new car so it is a new experience for me and I am trying to narrow down which one to go for. I am sure many/most of you Gti/Gtd owners have been in this position before and so I would like some advice on why you ended up buying a Golf, instead of one of the competition. Do you regret it or was it the right choice?
The cars I am currently considering and have researched are:-
Mk6 Golf Gti/Gtd
New 2011 BMW 1 series Sport
Seat Leon FR
Alfa Guiletta Cloveleaf or top spec diesel
From reading the various reviews available online, they all get good reviews, with the Golf coming out as the class leader (but ultimately the most expensive when taking into account the options).
I believe there will be a MK3 Leon by the time I return, but the rest will still be the same design. I plan to test drive these when I am back in England in the coming months to get a better appreciation, but I’d appreciate your opinions on the following:-
Is the Golf the best out of the bunch as the various reviews suggest?
Are the others worth considering based on your experience with the Golf?
If you had your chance again would you buy an alternative?
If I go with the Golf, when do you think would be a realistic time to place the order so as I receive it in September 2012? Jan 2012? Earlier?
I realise that it is all pretty subjective (and maybe biased, as I am asking on a Golf forum), but I want to make sure I have considered everything and would be interested in peoples recommendations.
Cheers,
