DSG v Manual
« on: 08 July 2011, 20:09 »
Im a bit harsh on my clutches for some reason.  Ive had new gearboxes and clutches in 2 out of the 5 cars I have owned.

Ive had my Mk5 Golf gti 16 months and my clutch doesn't feel like it used too!  Ive got my car on lease hire and I will be getting a new car in November 2012.  Im seriously considering going for a DSG.  Other than checking the mechatronics are there any downsides with the DSG?  For example is there any difference in fuel consumption?

Any opinions would be gratefully received.  Cheers

+1 on this I picked up my A3 on Thursday night and have done 250+ miles so far and all I can say is it's absolutely fantastic.. It's smooth on gear changes in auto.. Sport mode for me nearly takes it to redline.. Kick down is great :)... Then you have added bonus of paddleshift which is a hoot better on my own as I'm still a bit jerky with it

All I will say is don't go from manual (dsg) into sport as it chucks the car into emergency stop which is not cool as I found out

I personally love the manual. You need to give DSG a test drive (ideally for as long as possible) and see what you think.

Got to be DSG all the way.... seriously once you go DSG your never go back to manual.

My Mk6 has done 27K now and the DSG hasn't skipped a beat ( famous last words )
