About the Car - 1993 MK3 GLi - Engine 2E - 8V - Automatic Transmission (no turbo) (in Taiwan)
Before - the care had a little spunk - touching the gas pedal meant going forward. Getting on it meant use available power.
Problem:
Variables:
Aircon - ON fanspeed 3
Driving time - 1 hour highway driving
OTHER - Alpine stereo, 10 " sub with 4X6.5" door speakers - medium volume
I exited the highway and came to a full stop at a RED LIGHT. It wanted to cut out. The break pedal became heavy, so I put it in neutral from 'D'. I tried to pull over and then it cut out when I tried to accelerate.
It didn't want to start again on the first try - 3rd try was the charm - so I nursed it back home.
Temperature was around 100. (seemed normal)
From full stop to 2000 RPM NOW - very little power - TURN the AC OFF - then a little more power is available, but not much.
It doesn't matter which gear - D, 3,2,1 ... From 0 to around 2500 RPM, very little power.
Things I've done before the problem occurred:
Cleaned bottom + top, valves - changed gaskets (zero oil leaks), MAF, intake tube etc... Changed dizzy cap, wires + plugs, coil, lots of new hoses all around.
Things I've done after the problem began:
Cleaned MAF, replaced PCV valve, changed timing belt + pully (it was moving unnaturally) - timing was 100% spot on afterwards (Power was available for 1 day, then back to problem) Mechanic said coil was fine, hall sensor was ok (these were replaced with new ones, then tested - same power issue)...
I am thinking O2 sensor, crakshaft position sensor, or lambda sensor... I've also read something about a split in the brake servo vacuum... but any help here would be much appreciated.
edit: I changed the title to reflect the current understanding and solution to my problem.
