Had mine 2 weeks now, with mostly town driving I'm getting an average of 28 mpg and 260 to a tank. My Audi 80 with the same engine got 23 mpg doing the same, so I'm happy  :smiley:

I read this post yesterday and im not sure what i am getting out of mine, so had a round trip today for about 20 mile, took my time, didn't go over 3000 revs and it was showing 28 mpg :shocked:

i wondered why im always at the petrol station :huh:

41mpg with my 16valver on my 5 mile trip to the station this morning!  Brucey bonus!

The best I've ever had was 44.1mpg on a run, barely touching the throttle and changing gear at 2krpm!

Forget 8valves.. 16valves = more power and more efficient!  :grin:

after owning gti 8v, gti 16v and vr6, the 16v is bottom for town driving. 16v I had to keep it in second gear for slow driving, where as gti 8v on same route I can leave it in 3rd and vr6 just leave it in 4th lol

Your 16v probably wasnt working properly then, mine will quite happily sit at 30mph in 5th gear and pull along nicely, even after having the flywheel lightened.

Lately I've seen 35 mpg on the way to work, 11 mile trip, but having put £100 in the tank have only got approx 400 mile from it.
