  • Other brands of washing powder are available.
Over that last 4 years driving my Mk5 TDI there were two flat tyres. Both on the rear of the car and I did not feel a thing. So both tyres were destroyed, but luckily not the alloys. Because of this - and because I often drive 500 miles in a week - I started checking my tyre pressures every weekend. So for me it was a no brainer to spec the Tyre Pressure Indicator. It should be standard equipment on GTI/GTD. It is only £35 ffs. It could stop a tyre and alloy being destroyed at a cost of nearly £300.

I ordered it. It is on emails with my dealer. My dealer says he ordered it. But it is not fitted.

I passed little remark when collecting the car as I thought it would be a simple retro fit. Now my dealer is telling me that it is not possible to retro fit the TPMS. He is saying that the ABS control units are different. A quick search here suggests that it is a simple retro fit.  :undecided:

Can a dealer retro fit the Tyre Pressure Indicator?

Thank you for any advice,

Daz Auto

Then they need to change the ABS sensors. When you took delivery did agree to take as is, or on the basis they would correct the missing item?

I said I would like it retro fitted. He said he would check.

AFAIK all that is needed is a reset switch wired from the glove box to the ABS control unit. Then code it with the VCDS. Others here have retro fitted the TPMS.

Don't understand why my dealer is saying it cannot be done.

It is a simple retrofit but I doubt the dealer would do it as it requires a custom loom and a new connection to the ABS controller.
There is no need for a new ABS controller but it needs to be recoded to enable the function.

If its the same TPMS that was std on the mk5 then its a sh1te feature that isnt worth £1 let alone the £35 vw are charging for it

Thanks mike. Looks like I will have to fit it myself. Wonder if there is any chance the dealer will enable it for me?

Mine has worked well for me and caught a couple of slow punctures, so well worth it.

If you don't need the option to reset it (*Thats all the button does) You can enable it via VCDS by ticking a simple box.
Thats how mine was for months till i got round to fitting Steve's button kit.

More info about it, how it works, and a great thread about it worth reading  etc on the below link
