Cutting out when cold
« on: 22 June 2011, 19:20 »
It's happening more frequently now, I didn't think much of it at first and assumed it would go away lol! It mainly happens when it's cold (when the weather is cold mainly) but will only do it once and run fine the rest of the duration it's on.

I'm not sure what to check, cheap fixes first really lol!

Have you got VAG com? if not buy it, its worth having.
ECU coolant temp sender would be my first stop, but also as Wayne said, get the throttle body off and give it a good clean(get a new gasket also).

I have a new temp sensor. Can't for the life of me find instructions to change it or where the thing is in the first place. Any help? I don't have to flush the coolant system do I? I've got the ECU sensor.

It's an absolute doddle to change the temp sensor, all you have to do is disconnect the wiring on it and remove the c-clip that holds it into place on top of the black plastic coolant flange on the front of the block above the oil filter. You should be able to recognise it from its yellow plastic collar.

Just make sure you do it when the coolant is cold
Leave it overnight if you can, otherwise remove the expansion tank cap to release any pressure in the system.
