Smoke & misfire - SORTED!
« on: 15 June 2011, 22:08 »
Hey all,
I've got a problem with my PD115 (AJM) mkiv that i'm trying to get to the bottom off.
It's been running fine then just over a week ago it all of a sudden started puffing white smoke and misfiring.

I've had it in various pieces to see if i could find anything obvious...

Injector loom appears to have continuity when tested with a metre.
cam belt is in good shape
fuel filter has been changed and primed with diesel treatment

2 x minor coincidences

1 - a minor oil leak from an unknown location which has been happening for a while now
2 - put about 15 litres of V-Power diesel in about a week previous (as it was the only one available)

has anyone else experienced such issues?  i've got a feeling i'm just missing somthing fairly fundemental....

Thanks

Sorry - yes all have been checked...

I'm going to run it up to temperature tomorrow to see what happens
I'll also whip off the expansion tank cap and see if i'm getting any bubbles coming through

Low fuel pressure or low compression quite possibly.

White smoke an missfire usually means there is a timing issue. See if you can get a garage to Vagcom it, and adjust the timing slightly.
