thinking of buying a mk5 gti
« on: 12 June 2011, 13:20 »
hi all, this is my 1st post on your forum and hope to get some info from you guys

right here goes, i am currently driving a 2005 a4 cabriolet 2.5tdi, i am thinking of selling up and buying a mk5 gti. i owned a mk4 gti turbo way back in 2001 and loved it but since then i have had diesels and have got used to the high mpg that comes with it. now my 2.5tdi is currently returning 38mpg and i was wondering if i would get anywhere near that from a mk5 gti?? highly unlikely i bet

what would be the best and worst mpg i could expect to see???
how many miles would i get to a tank??? are golfs still fitted with a 55 litre tank?? my audi costs around £96 to fill up and the best return i have had is 520 miles

my budget is around £7500, i am hoping to get a 2005 55reg with leather, xenons and sat nav with no more than 80000 miles on the clock, do you think i am being optimistic???

thanks

fuel ecomomy isnt as important as it was, i done weekly trips to london, a 400 mile return journey, but now i only have to do the trip once a month. so seeing as i am 600 miles a month better off now, i thought i would look at getting a new car which was fun to drive, my audi is near 2000kg so is not that much fun to drive when i want to put my foot down.

i have seen combined mpg figures of 35mpg for the gti, i was just wondering if that figure was way off the mark???

I mainly do short journeys and fill up twice a month. I get about 300-330 miles per tank and am currently doing 30mpg.

we get about 380 to a tank (approx 34mpg)

there will not be many with that spec about for that money

380 sounds good to me, i dont do much city/town driving apart from when i go to london, is it a 55 litre tank in the mk5??

i didnt think i would stand much chance of getting what i wanted with a 7500 budget, but i will probably go over budget anyway, i had a 7500 budget for my last car and ended up spending 9000 lol. i could live with out the sat nav, but do want leather and xenons.

You will only get 380 to a tank if you dont live in the Inner city..
Between 25-28 is a realisic mpg figure for those areas.

I manage an average of 37 mpg the other week on A road's and motorway trip sticking to the speed limits. journey time 2 hours.

Getting 30's+ mpg must be doing long journeys and not short journeys, as that WILL plummit your mpg towards 25!.

These Engines dont like short journeys at all. The TFSI doesnt work effectivly for those jouneys..

If your Motorway running , you will achieve mid 30's.

I live in Durham and have a varied type of driving. Our commute is about 20miles on and off A19
The mpg has recently increased after having service, new coil packs, and new spark plugs.

On commute i drive sensible but do like to give her some on the B roads.

Incidently .........  We paid £12k for a car with the spec you want but with 39000miles on clock from a VW dealer.
The leather is a nice thing but std interior is nice. Armrest is a must for me and highline display.
