Sad times but cars with motors like this are getting harder and harder ti insure for the young folk.... Why retirement from VW, couldn't you just get something more Insurance friendly?

Aye, you need to build up no claims and drive smaller capacity cars unless you're loaded. That way you're also not driving a seriously quick car when you are still daft enough to use the full power in an inappropriate place. Plenty of 8v's out there which will get you the look without the insurance premium. Or a Tdi....? :lipsrsealed:

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Eventually you could possibly look at getting another MK3 that's more insurance friendly, spend some the huge amount of insurance savings on modding the car to look and sit how you like then at a later date when the insurers love you, stick a transplant in.

Never build what you can buy. Waste of cash unless you can do it yourself quickly and easily. Plus if you mod' your car, even just wheels and suspension some insurers will either jack the price or refuse cover all together. It's bullsh*t but that's how they work it. Better off getting something like a Driver or such that looks the part (ish) but is stock and insure that for a year or two. Also bonus accelerator schemes are rip too. Also adding a more mature driver to your insurance provided they have a good driving history reduces premium. There is a link somewhere giving the grading of your postcodes too as that effects your premium.

the way my insurance works is as long as its no modification that adds BHP there is no extra cost! also i would never transplant, as the shell and the engine is in to good conditions = NO f**kING RUST what so ever! so worth keeping it for the condition!
