Im running coilovers to attempt to make my golf handle and look better due to the back being so high. Its just how their designed. Their a comfy family vehicle more than a road race car like a GTI should be

What coilovers you running? are they a harsh ride?

I got FK gay K's which seem ok but are crap on the quickly declining condition of roads that are local to me. On maintained roads their all good but then so is any suspension but on a bumpy road its a bit jumpy and skippy. Never ever gonna be as good as similar cars with independant rear suspension.....

The heavy 4mo had it, i cant see why they thought the rear beam was a good idea. Maybe the designers fancied an early day!

Cost and maintenance factors into why they did a rear beam for the MK4.

Then VW went and nicked a few people from Ford who were involved with the Focus so MK5 etc onwards has independent rear suspension  :nerd:

If I had the cash to do it again, Id go for springs and shocks instead of spoilovers like a shot! Far comfier and less stress on the rims on crap roads and no worries about banging the sump and setting the height etc

Humm my cars got 130k suspenion so looking to refresh it all,Replacing the rear axle bushs and a few other bits and am now undecided regarding suspenion. The FK coilvers on ebay seem such a bargain its hard to resist!£145 brand new!

At the moment the car "bangs" a bit when hitting a bump but i'm not sure if its just the way they are or due to worn out suspenion completly standard besides 17in rims

Now I just wanna drop the car 20-30mm and retain the same qauilty of ride if not better (figured fresh suspension would be make a big differnce even if a lil lower)

But I hear alot of people saying what you say dude get springs/shocks over coilies!
but which set can you get for £150? the FK's are actually a half decent brand aswell!
