The engine wont be going in for ages im afraid.I have a LOT of smoothing, relocating, stripping, painting etc and then the car has to go off to have the bay painted,THEN the engine will go in and then the wiring hiding etc will ensue.
I will be taking it off the road end of this month and start stripping the front end out and whipping the engine out and then i can build the engine in the garage when i get too cold welding and smoothing the bay.
Oh while the plasma and mig is out i will notch the chassis too.
Just looking for ideas on how to smooth the front panel.
I will be cutting the centre out of the panel where the rad goes to fit a different rad with side fill tank on but the top i want smooth and painted so thats another one for me to work out.

All sounds great bud! I have a lot of stuff to hide and relocate in my 'bay as well, and I also want to do something with the slam panel to neaten it all up, I have a few ideas ;) I need to get hold of a twin fan panel and a VR rad though.....

Am I right in thinking Potter is a non ABS model wit the servo and master cylinder on the right side of the 'bay as you look at it? I really want to either delete the ABS or hide it so I can move the master cylinder and servo to the right. that way I can clean up all the heat shielding and the brake lines that go from left to right across the bulkhead! I just don't know weather it would be better to hide or delete the ABS system........ and if I do keep it, where on earth to hide the god aweful, ugly POS lol!

I have a twin fan set up and slam panel here if i can utilize the 16v one i have as im gunna be cutting it up anyway then its yours.

As for the servo master cylinder.Unless it is a LHD it is ALWAYS on the right hand side, its just your abs pump on the left hand side.Me personally i would remove it as its not the best system in the world anyway and mine stops perfectly well up front with the brake upgrade up front.

I will be routing the brake lines in the scuttle panel along with a few other things.

Interested to hear your ideas with the slam panel though ;)

I am inclined to agree with you on the ABS front, the amount of times I hear about the system not working, it might as well just be ripped out lol! As long as the car is still safe to drive by doing so obviously :) I have an inline filler neck to fit instead of fitting a top or side fill rad, I just want to cut out the fan housing and fit two slimline push fans to the front of a VR rad instead, then do a bit of plastic welding and smoothing on the inner face of the slam panel to tidy it up a bit, ie, where the loom goes across the top etc.

Yeah it stops perfectly fine without.Just remember to fit the brake compensator valve on the rear axle so the back end doesnt lock up,but dont forget to adjust the arm on it to take into account the lows or it will think you always have a ton of bricks in the back lol

Is that an aftermarket piece of kit I have to install? I guess the non GTI models don't have them because they have drums at the back?
