tbh mate, im not that kind of person, us honest people are in the minority these days, but if id of sold it on id of been worried everyday thinkin they would bring it back. also they wouldent of been insured,so basicly if the buyer had hit you and wrote your car off , theyd of had no insurence and you would of been another victim of this car

as far as the checks go, the car looked fine, and drived fine, even the hpi said it wasent stolen as it was on different plates, and all the vins numbers matched., so not being a mechanic myself, lookin at the engine, it said vw on the top of it, i was never going to know any different.
it has taken 3 weeks for the police to realise iots a gti, not 1.6 shell
they said, the vin numbers had been changed professionaly, so it looked really convincing.

Sorry for bumping this old tedius thread!

The insurence company have just rang me and said i can buy the car back for 1000 pound

i dont want to insure a 2.0 cant afford it, buying it back wont affect my court case as id be buying it back ( a new sale)

here's the question, is it worth buying it back to sell on / or brake , i'll still get my cash back for the car through the courts,( if i win)

so as it stands isit worth payin 1000 for this golf, the wheels alone cost 500 pound in november, and are virtually brand new (rs8 18 inch)

the car is actually an X reg (2001) 2.0 gti
2 owners from new
81k miles
will be registerd as stolen recoverd

Being honest if you sold it you would not get much if anything more than a grand anyway.

Breaking it might be an option but with it being a 2.0 will not be many takers for the engine etc.

I’m sure you already have done this but couldn’t see in the posts. Have you contacted eBay saying it’s not as described? I’m a regular buyer and seller on there and I think you’ve got 90 days to make a claim and they have always been good with me with iphones and stuff although not sure on the situation when it comes to cars.
