If you do get £5 a week back, try not to touch it and have a sneaky bonus in the future.

man, being honest sucks.. i`m really gutted for you mate. i suppose the best method to deal with this would have been do the engine conversion back to 1.6 then dispose of the 2.0 engine.. that way you would still have had a car and not been so out of pocket.
it may all sort out for you though mate, perhaps the engine was from a recoverd car and the police dont have record of this yet.. do they know who the engine actually belonged to?..

Really hope all this works out in your favour mate.

It all does sound a bit strange and jamie16v may be right, it could be the case that the car was stolen, recovered and then sold on by the police/insurance company and it could all be legit they just haven't worked that out yet.

Just read the whole thread and.. WOW!!.. that's massively unfair  I was thinking its a gti aswell as i've got a 1.6se and it doesnt have painted rub strips or that interior.. If theres a lesson to be learned its RESEARCH! It may be time consuming but its free and can help you avoid situations like this! I'm not blaming you by any means, you seem like a very honest decent guy, but its a dog eat dog world out there and you've got to be on your toes! Hope things work out for you anyway mate..

Sorry for bumping this old tedius thread!

The insurence company have just rang me and said i can buy the car back for 1000 pound

i dont want to insure a 2.0 cant afford it, buying it back wont affect my court case as id be buying it back ( a new sale)

here's the question, is it worth buying it back to sell on / or brake , i'll still get my cash back for the car through the courts,( if i win)

so as it stands isit worth payin 1000 for this golf, the wheels alone cost 500 pound in november, and are virtually brand new (rs8 18 inch)

the car is actually an X reg (2001) 2.0 gti
2 owners from new
81k miles
will be registerd as stolen recoverd
