If it's the cruise control light (I think it's green IIRC) then when you touch either the brake or clutch it will disappear.

The only way to turn it on is if you flick the 'set' switch on the left hand stalk.

Are you sure it's the cruise control light?

Yep the Cruise Control light is green on the dash that looks like a mini speedo to look at. The light comes on if the CC is activated by setting the rocker switch over to the left although the speed setting is done via a separate rocker on the same stalk. The light remains on the dash throughout.

So if you've flicked the switch on the left hand stalk that would bring the light on but if you haven't possibly a wiring fault?

Thanks for the clarification - however the OP states that he noticed it when parking - it is only activated above 20mph and as I mentioned as soon as you touch the brake or clutch it disengages and the light goes out??

Strange, unless like you say there is a fault with the circuit.

Are you really not sure what cruise control does? The system allows you to maintain a set road speed (of your choice). Useless in town, but on a quiet motorway or through speed controlled areas (like SPECS, the av speed cameras on motorways) it is invaluable.

Yep, quite happy I know what the Cruise Control does, been using in pretty much the way you describe for the last four and half years - thanks for asking though.

The OP says he noticed it when parking, not sure that means that it only came on when he was parking though, could have come on earlier in the journey. I'm sure he'll be along in a while to clarify.

Strange thing you mention about the dashboard light though, mine stays on as long as it's activated but not set whereas it would seem yours goes out once you hit the brake. Mine's a 56 model so maybe a change in later MYs?

My light is only lit whilst the cc is active - not just switched to on.
