Well its always going to be taking a chance on condition buying 2nd hand i guess? If i was going to be changing valves etc, id just do mine.

300-500? Is that reconned? Most AGU engines are ive seen are 300-500 for the whole lot?

If it helps the VW Part number for your AGU cylinder head (off ETKA) is
">058 103 351 E"

With valves and camshaft fitted it is called
"#058 103 265 BX"

Did a quick qoogle search;
Audi A4 it appeared on the ADR and AEB engine code too
Passat Synchro (if there is such a thing in the UK) it appeared the ADR engine
Passat B5 it appeared on the ANQ and AWL engines

Thanks Mr_Orange   :afro:

Thing is Cully, im on a budget lol, i know thats not bad, but would still do cambelt, waterpump, tensioner, full service on new engine and also swap ECU's as mine stage 1.

Engine 500
ECU swap - Vagcom/tacho - 30?
cambelt, water pump + tensioner - 170 delivered
full service - 50

Talking 700+ atleast.

If i can get a head for 200, knocks 300 off that straight away. My AGU has done 86k, im the second owner, ECU been remapped so thats added hassle to change.

I move out this week hopefully into own house again and holiday in scotland for 10 days in 2 weeks time. Funds are tighter than a camels a55 in a sandstorm..

you dont need to swap the ecu, and you have to do timing belt and service anyway.

would be easier to drop new engine in, but less of a guarantee

You think houston? Would work out roughly same price after thinking about it to buy cos i would save on head gasket kit, but pay extra for bottom end with the head.. delivery would be more though.

Thing is wont chnging the heads over, and putting gaskets in be like a 3-5 hour job, and swapping engines over be like a couple of weekends job? Surely just the head will be easier?
I really dont know, so is good to hear different opinions.

That bank head for 250, brand new? Genuine you think as that seems like a fcukin bargain as id just put all my cams etc in? Can it be genuine and new for 250 of my hard earned notes?
