8v gti no spark NEW PROBLEMS

I've read through loads of threads but cant find the answer!

Think its an agg code , i got a new ignition module (coil) today but still no spark. Ive also changed relay 30 and all fuses and checked all earths but still nothing.

Is there anything else thats simple to check before i start changing sensors?

it only has the standard vw one and from what ive read will still let the car start for a few seconds mate.

Is there a spark coming from the coil? If not it's either:

a) the coil
b) ignition barrel
c) old, brittle, crap german wiring
Or d) the ECU

Or if like in my case all of the above!!

Changed coil and ignition switch today but still no spark. Ive looked at some more threads and read about the crank position sensor so i went out and checked mine just now and from what i can see, where thie wire enters the sensor it appears to be cracked and moves when wiggling the wire so i will get one tomorrow if dealer has one in stock.

yea mate quite possible, on my car one of the wires from the ECU to the coil had literally been torn in half... thats what happens when a car with nearly 20 year old wires gets used day after day!

will check this tomorrow as well mate cheers as ive had a few issues with wiring the previous owner managed to melt the main live wire from the fuse box to the ignition dont know how he managed it had to replace the ignition to fuse box loom because of this, luckely the only other wires damaged were on the same loom.

how do i check this mate?

the reason im thinkin the crank sensor is the previos owner had the cutting out problem for a while before it stopped going.
