These are the right ones for the 288mm brake set up

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230293001874&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

He will sell them for £40 plus postage if you make an offer.

Not listed for the Golf but they are the right ones.

Paul

Nice one Paul! The seller replied saying he was sorry if information was misleading and that if I had the wrong pads I could send them back for a full refund. He would check on Monday to see if he has some MDB1741 to swap them for.

If he doesn't, I'll get a refund and buy them off the guy you suggested

Yeah that's also confusing me but for some reason it lists the late 16v mk3's - Odd

Yeah  :undecided:

Well I've just sent the seller another email.

I've just had confirmed that these pads that you said will fit my 1997 16v 288mm brakes, in fact won't fit. The part number for the mintex pads for the 288mm brakes is in fact MDB1741 followed by the pad compound code, and the 288mm calipers are ATE not Lucas.
Also, I was told that the listing includes Mk2 brakes, which none have 288mm (G60 has the largest, 280mm).

Could I please have a full refund if that information is in fact trust, otherwise I have no use for these pads.

Let's see what he replies with  :undecided:

Ive just received a message from the seller and insists that they will fit out valvers.

Nevertheless, I made an offer to the bloke selling the Sharan ones from Paul's link and hopefully he'll accept it (tried to be cheeky, £38 rather than £40 as Paul said ).

And I have asked the seller of the other pads to please give me a full refund so it saves up both postage and time. He said Monday morning first thing he will refund

Dont mean to hijack this thread, but how much more would drilled/vented discs kill the pads by compared to standard?

I heard grooved discs grate the pads, not sure about drilled.

well he is wrong then, simple. no way a pad can fit both a G60 and a late MK3 GTI/16v, because the calipers are totally different. can see from the pic they are early type as well

The seller of the correct pads from the link Paul posted has accepted my £38 offer

Need to clean up and paint the new calipers, get some new discs and get it all together

So the Mintex M1144 ones will fit an early ('94) 16v?  Will be needing some new pads soon and stumbled over this thread ...

Ferodo ds2500 are an excellent choice. I've heard lots of bad things about the greenstuff pads.

got Ferodo pads on mine too and mintex discs - fantastic combo
