Its a bummer, I bought the car as gift for my good lady to replace her 2004
SEAT ibiza which had done 130,000 miles which apart from the stone chips
was rust free. When talking to the body shop manager he was of the opinion
that VW should re-call them as it is now so wide-spread.I have checked my
SEAT Leon for the same problem but all looks good, helped by the big plastic
liner on the end of the wing(no leaves to clean out!)
Ibizas can suffer it too our 2004 has. Its just it has not broke through to the outside of the wing yet just on the inside. Mk4 golfs have also suffered it in the past. But in those cases its incorrectly fitted arche liners causing the problem rather than a design flaw.

As an update it appears that sadly my whole wing & more needs replacing - evidently by the time bubbling occurred the underside was buggered. I'm gutted to say the least - VW have said they're going to try and honour the warranty work though.

Its perhaps better that your wing is too far gone as have to use a shiny new one,
I'm still waiting for an outcome form VW, I mean how long does it take to flip a coin!!
Have said to them that if it gets the go ahead I would consider paying for new wings.

Mine is booked in first thing for them to inspect the rusty areas on my car.  Then I suppose its a case of sit tight and wait for them to cough up.  I know its going to take a while but I will be happy to wait.

waiting on the warranty people to say aye or naw.

My wings don't look too bad at the moment but I'm sure its only a matter of time before they rust, the worst spot on mine is on the sill near where the wing starts.

Well they had a look at mine this morning, now being referred to the warranty department, should hear back within two weeks I have been told , that will probably be to tell me that they won't cover the whole cost of the repair though.  Does anyone else have rust in the same spot, on the sill where the wing begins.

If anyone else has any photos of this it would be good to bolster my claim and also does anyone know what the cause of this is is it just poor paint coverage from the factory?

I had this issue but it was reolved at no cost to myself.

Have a look at my posts to see what my pictures were like.

Apparently both wings on mine had the rust - one (the one with visible bubbling) was replaced and the other repaired.

Morale of story: remove your wheel arch liners and check if you have a car more than 4 years old!
