A stripped Golf 2 is less than 900kgs - 200bhp+ in a Golf2 will be f@cking amazing.

How much did the stripped scoob weigh?

i couldnt tell you tbh matey...was light but yeah not as light as a little stripped mk2

Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

F*ck TSR - talk to JP at JNL Racing - he builds a lot more interesting things:

http://www.jnlracing.com/

If you want something to compare with your Subaru, find a Golf Syncro, strip it and fit a turbo 16V 2.0 and Rallye drivetrain, or find a VR6 Syncro Golf3 in Germany, ship it back here and then put most of what's underneath under a Golf2 Syncro shell (higher tunnel, so much stiffer).  When you realise you want more power, strap some sort of a huffer on the back and away you go.

Why in the hell would you want a FWD Golf2 with a boat anchor in the front after having an Impreza?  It's like pulling a U-turn as you're running away from high servicing costs and fuel bills!  The 2.0 16V should be significantly more frugal and quick enough, for some fun.

My G2 Syncro 2.0 16V weighs in at about 1060kg and will run consistant 9minute laps of the 'ring with a tool like me at the wheel - that's on a completely stock 2.0 16V ABF code motor, which got shoved in there when the old 8V went pop.

Why not look around for a built track car?  You'll spend a lot less than building one yourself and with the sort of budget you're talking about you can be pretty picky.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

For a quick road car, a mk2 vr6 doesnt actually handle that badly. Unless you're intent on using it on the track, i wouldn't necessarily rule it out.  Horses for courses

Unfortunately comments ref adorning the front with an anchor are somewhat OTT. In a road application it doesnt make any noticable difference. And if you're intent on driving it to the limit on the public highway (upon which you will feel the difference) then you deserve to end up in a ditch.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

1.8T will be front heavy like the vr6 in a mk2.

I believe a VR is heavier.

There are a few Mk2 ABF, 20vT and VR6 Turbo/Supercharged for sale at the minute WELL within your budget, I would at least consider buying one that has already been converted and using the left over cash to tie up any loose ends/add your own personal touch.

Regarding your question on engine builders, TSR are very well known and do a variety of installs for different applications. I have heard good things about http://www.stormdevelopments.co.uk/ aswell.

My Mk2 has had a TSR lump in it for years with no major troubles

A VR is heavier but there isn't much in it.

Feck the TSR engine.  I don't rate there engines and you may as well go to a professional and helpfull engine builder such as JNL.

If your spending  money on haveing a proper engine built it really inportant to be abel to ring the guy up who is going to be building it and discuss what you actualy want it to do.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
