Wheel size question.
« on: 19 December 2010, 12:05 »
Can anyone tell me if the following size wheels are correct for the mk6 GTI?

They are Genuine Bbs Ch 026 19"
PCD= 5x112 vag fitment.
8" x19"
ET 50
57.1 mm centrebore
tyres are 245/35/19

Tyres may be a bit wide?

Thanks for any help.

I'd say they are spot on.
My Genuine BBS CH025s in 18" are 8" x19", ET 50.
They fit just fine with 225/40/19 tyres.

My VW Racing wheels are 8.5" x19", ET 52.
They fit fine with 225/35/19 tyres..but they are pretty close to the arch.

I think 245s are too wide, I know the VWR wheels with 235s on *can* rub...so I'd have thought 245s would cause problems.

I'm looking at a set of 18" replicas which are PCD 5 x 112 and ET45.
Will these be ok with a set of 225 x 40 x 18 winter tyres?

The online supplier says they'll be fine - but obviously they want a sale!

What width Pete?
You may just be OK on an 8" wide wheel...no chance if they are 8.5s.

I'm still confused by the ET in general though.
My standard wheels are ET50.  Whats the difference between that and ET45?

The wheel offset is described by the term ET, which is from the German word ' Einpresstiefe', which means insertion depth.

Most wheels have a positive offset. The following sites explains it quite well and with diagrams.
A wheel ET45 8x18" should be fine for your R.

Hope these help.
