Sodding snow. 8" in West London.
The Polo simply could not mount the mound of snow in front of it, its little wheels too small for the job. Sometimes size matters. Needed winter rubber today, at least on the front axle for traction.
Could not be bothered to dig it out, so caught a cab.
My red baby is nice and warm in the bodyshop, thank Heaven.
I'll collect on Wednesday morning.
Sitting at home all day tomorrow and doing my nails.
Think I'll do them in Tornado Red.

I would definitely recommend the snow socks.

I Had to fit them today and they got me home through some pretty rough conditions and steep hills.
The traction control light didn't seem to come on once..

Made the big mistake of fitting them to the front wheels but they still seemed to work

Tut, tut mike. How could you?

You must sock it to your rear axle. If so, you'll have no handling or safety issues. You'll be stuck and stationary. That is really safe.

So, if you are in the middle of nowhere, in freezing conditions, you'll die from hyperthermia but you'll have no handling or safety issues with your car. You'll be dead.

How much further up the hill do you need to get?

Old carpet under the wheels will get you moving a bit. Even if it only allows you to move you a bit at a time, if it's not too far before the car can go on it's own it may be worth the effort.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I did this years ago and it worked a treat.

I did the magic carpet trick thanks Asker which got me 5m up the road in half an hour. The trouble is there's about another 300m of hill to climb. I could try and go back down the hill but its single file with parked cars either side and the last time someone did that they took four cars out.

Martin. What a nightmare. I, as you read earlier, could not move the dear little Polo. Try as I might, the poor little darling only went sideways. So I gave up and caught a cab.

I think I am ordering winters online tonight from a French site who are cheaper than mytyres and have got tyres in stock. Checked this yesterday. Will get Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s, 225/40 R18 92W XL. Expensive, but worth it IMO.

Mine hasn't moved for a week but our Audi A3 with proper 16" winter tyres has been awesome.

Had to go to Oxford today and stopped at service station the only thing other than me that got out of the carpark with ease was a Disco 3

R lights will be my first real mod in the new year. I should have done them at the group buy time. I feel so dated now when I look at the rear of my car now. Either that or I might go over to the dark side and look at an R.
R is not the dark side. Thats the TDI/GTD side. I know what you meen about the lights too i should have got them aswell.
