Update:

So after realising they have a big contract with my old mans company and the one I work for, things seem to be getting better.

They have arranged for their "refurb" guy who aparently has done monza wheels before and just invested in the latest machinery etc etc to do the job. we will see.

They want my car friday for a couple of hours, which I will stay around to see whats going on.

The wheel is going to be refurbed, so thats as good as admitting liability finally. if im unhappy with the refurb I want a new wheel.

Cheers dino for the tip on marking the wheel, whats the best way to do this?

booked in to get it done today, was 15 mins late due to traffic and the mobile refurb guy said he didnt have enough time now. Total joke.

Anyway hes had a look at it and said its a full refurb thats needed, 2 hr job. Said it may not look totally identical to the rear wheel as it will simply be "fresher" when refurbed, as the other wheels are older. My reply was all the wheels where replaced 15months ago by VW warranty for white worm so I expect them to all match.

Booked in for tuesday now, hes having the car so hes able to match the refurb with the other wheels. Im staying onsite to prevent any one taking it out for a "spin"

Hi,
just a cheap set of number stamps if you want to mark the wheels,
can pick them up fr less than a tenner from ebay of Machine mart etc..
similar to these:

good to see they are going to sort them out

Cheers Dino,

its a mobile refurb van man doing the job at the tyre place so I will be keeping an eagle eye.

I will report back tuesday. Hopefully with me being happy with the job done.

vwJon you say that you got your wheels replaced due to whiteworm?, what is the criteria for vw to do this.  Thanks.

Hi phil,

When I had the car, purchased it privately 15 ish months ago. It was about a month away from expired warranty. The lady who owned the car had all 4 wheels replaced under warranty for the white worm. They didnt however replace the centre caps which had the white worm. I replaced those myself with my local dealer.

If the car is under warranty and its the factory wheels that have white worm / pickling then get your wheels replaced via local VW dealer. I have paperwork somewhere to prove this if it will help your case. Though I dont know how bad they were?

update:

Just got back from having the refurb done. Done a very good job matching the wheels. Refurb guy commented on the lack of lacquer on the orignal wheel (no wonder so many have white worm) suggested I get the rest coated with extra lacquer.

Anyway whilst inspecting the wheel under the heat lamp, there where a few 10-20 spot marks. The fitter / reburb chaps said to let the paint fully dry then come back in a few weeks to sort that out. If im still not happy have the wheel acid bathed and try again, but id ask for a new wheel at that point.

These spot marks are dust mite under the paint as the environment the work was done in wasnt in my opinion a "clean" paint workshop.

Will keep you guys posted. I do have details of the refurb guy, but suggest its done in a clean environment

At least it's a surface scratch they butchered mine on the lip of the wheel obviously full refurb but they won't diamond cut and laquer it'll be paint to blend on the lip  what you guys think?

not worries dtea, hijack all you want, this will slowly turn into a official tyre fitters knackered my alloy thread.

I wouldnt except that to be fair, they are admitting liability by fixing the wheel. Be calm and fair with them, but insist it has to go back to the state before the damage and match the other wheels. Mention a small claims court if you get nowhere and document all conversations etc you have with them.

For the sake of a £70 refurb the company wont want a CCJ on their record.
