Thanks for the responses guys. Some pretty interesting ones too.

I do sympathise... Time to upgrade to a Golf R?

You might be surprised but I am thinking on going the other way. If I was to upgrade to a Golf R then eventually the performance would wear off again. My logic is that if the performance will never be 'ever-sufficient' then I should find something about the car that is.

Capacity and efficiency are moving up on my list as performance is moving down. I'm not singing for the black pump choir yet but I reckon a smaller capacity car might be the answer rather than constantly chasing the power in terms of my own satisfaction.

I enjoy the GTI and it is still quick. But I reckon I would enjoy a car more because of refinement, comfort, efficiency (or even convertible) over performance now.

Any thoughts?

Penguin Hi!

3 months ago, around the time of Le Mans, I remember you were about to get a Mini Cooper S Works but decided to keep your GTi.

That time has come again.

Personally, I would consider a dedicated sports car which will provide you with the requisite thrills which a family hatchback, be it a GTi or an R, can attempt to but never truly give.

Happy hunting.

Must admit i have been trying other cars of late.  but most are so refined they simply don't feel fast. I miss the old car connected feeling and also especially of old turbo cars kick.

You are bang on the money. I guess I am just experiencing a period of unrest.

I was ultimately dissatisfied with the Mini hence my purchase of the GTI. I am not quite as bad as I was before Dr Amz in that I'm not considering selling the Golf. I am more than happy keeping it for a good bit longer but the point of my post is more that my priorities in a car are changing.

are you gay?

The speed no longer seems to be doing it for me.

Unfortunately, I think I might be

Snoops you are on the money also. That was what I loved about the Mini was the connected feeling (although still diminished compared to cars of old) and also the good ol' kick which seems to be getting shunned in favour of linear power. Booooooo!!!!

The funny thing is....... as I was posting the gay car picture the batteries in my mouse decided to pack up and I couldn't minimise the screen quick enough just as one of the girls in the office walked by my desk  :embarassed:
