Don't bother with a cone filter unless your going to fit a proper heat shield. Otherwise you'll end up drawing in the warm air from the engine rather than the cold air from outside the car.

unless you relocate the cone'd air filter to somewhere in your bumper near a vent or something and use a less restrictive pipe, can't really imagine much of a gain from doing it on an 8v to be honest! on my 1.8 i much prefered a drilled air box, sounded pretty nice too! :)

To be fully realistic, on as simple an engine as the 8v is, a cone filter/panel filter or whatever is going to make the square root of sod all difference without the engine being tuned up using cams/ecu fine tuning etc. and that goes for power losses also, heat soak won't kill your power drastically, but you'll certainly not notice any improvement outside of noise. Sheilding and routing a cold air feed are simple and effective fixes also. As for fitting, find out first if you have a Bosch or Hitachi MAF (the box with wires going into it), if its bosch you're in luck as you can pick up cold air intake kits compatible for 15 quid on ebay. If it's Hitachi custom is the only way to go unless you can find an adapter the correct size (Bosch have a square hole, Hitachi round as far as I can gather, the former is more widely supported). I had hitachi and custom made mine out of the joint in the airbox on one very sad bored and lonely night
