Upgrading front top mounts using MK3 bits ...

One of my front top mounts is shagged, so I'll swap out the pair. Generally consensus appears to be:

Standard MK2 top mount < G60 top mount < Standard MK3 top mount

I've got coilovers on my shed - so am I right in thinking that I can fit MK3 top mounts as a replacement to my MK2 bits, looking here http://i-didn't-post-a-link-to-the-competition/FORUM/showpost.php?p=1513921&postcount=4 - I'll need ...



Bearing:****1J0 412 249
Special nut: 1H0 412 365a
Rubber top mount:357 412 331a
Top plate: 357 412 319b
Top nut:***n 903 536 03

Can anyone confirm the above?

Go to scrapyard, remove all components from top of Golf3 GTI strut, less the mount, noting the order they come off the strut, pay peanuts, reassemble on the top of your strut.

Should see you right.

It's a far superior assembly.

yep thats the stuff, if you can get the bits off a MK3 in t'scrapper all for the better. top nut has changed part number since then, its now N   105 352 01. you dont need the upper retaining cup either, the mk2 one fits just fine. i wish i had known that before spending hours in t scrappy struggling with rusted up MK3s

Scrapyard it is for the little bits, any particular brand/supplier recommended for the mount+bearing itself?

lemforder, oem quality
ecp sell that brand, and they often come up on ebay too. do a search in the vw parts section for lemforder. sometimes see tt wishbone bushes come up there too

IMHO I would just go and buy new ones from VAG...

They arn't that dear....

By the time youv'e got to the Scrappy and then messed about getting it off, and you won't know if its shagged till you fit it...

Thing is, you don't seem to understand that VAG supplied parts are often pretty much the same as third party supplier parts.

What possible chance do we have explaining why one would fit G3 mounts to the front struts on your car?

The improved precision and durability make a lot of sense.

The parts you get from the scrappy don't really wear.

We have covered this before....

I don't care for Patten parts...

You keep banging on about them but as I have said before you give me a list of the manufacturer's and then give me a cast Iron guarantee that they are the same then I might consider it...

Till then I will stick with VAG parts bought from the dealer's...

There is a firm in Germany who is selling sunroof seals that are stated as from OEM supplier but a guy on here has used one and says it's not as good as the OEM one..

If the OEM "Never Ware Out" Why do they sell them as spares???

For what it costs I still say IMO it's a pointless exercise to save a few quid...

If you fit brand new you have piece of mind that they are all new and that you will not have the same issue for a number of years!!
