the AGG has a crank and a cam sensor.  The crank is under the oil filter in the block, and the cam as you know is in the dizzy.

Would check the crank sensor wiring out if it was me.

allrite bud me again, golfs still driving me mad. its a 1997 2.0 agg. ive changed the coil pack and ecu relay. also checked the dizzy and cant see anything wrong with it. Running fine for a day then cuts out again wont start for 5 mins, ie when its hot. still cant find crank sensor, nothing in haynes manual!!! looked under the oil filter, there is a probe but i thought that was an oil sensor. all the problems point to crank sensor but not sure if its got one. also do u think it could be the fuel filter? running out of ideas. cheers for the help so far GRIFF

AGG defo' has a crank sensor.  Its in the engine block under the oil filter, and the comes out, round the filter bracket and into a connector on the bunch of loom near the dizzy.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

[/quote cheers fella will definately check it out. changed the ignition barrell recently and lost the key at work yesterday, fuming. cant start it now, i put the original barrell back tonite and swapped the black box over but wont start at all now. Even bridged the starter and solenoid to bypass it and still wont start!!!! seriously stressed, the only thing that works properly are the hazard lights!!! Griff

i was going to sau ecu but you guys got there before me. only way to check it properly is to let it idle get it to temp and then rev it lyk a beehach! it will cut out connect vag com and ut will tel you no signal from ecu it will be the ecu relay (had same prob going down a hill engine clunks of no brakes or power steering

should point out that rev'ing and engine with no load is not good for it.

I bet you its the crank sensor ... your symptoms just so much like the crank. Silly rev' bouncing and cutting out.

I spent nearly £800 fixing/replacing so much stuff under the hood, and did the crank sensor last.

I also, got a NEW ECU reprogrammed and what not ...

Absolute headache electrical faults are, but when sorted you have your self a solid motor again.
