the AGG has a crank and a cam sensor.  The crank is under the oil filter in the block, and the cam as you know is in the dizzy.

Would check the crank sensor wiring out if it was me.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Cheers bud will check it out, away working at the moment but determined to sort it when i get home. got a spare coil pack and gunna look at the dizzy. ill check the crank sensor too. gotta get this sorted sooner or later. nice one

I'm going to say it's either coil or crank sensor. Before you do anything though I'd suggest getting it scanned on vagcom, it will determine the fault if it's a sensor or wiring.

I wish it did!  None of my faults (including my shorting-crank-sensor-wiring) shows up on vagcom.  In my experience the mk3 ECU isn't clever enough to log non-critical faults.

Worth a try though - you might be lucky

Thers a vw specialist down the road, he was gunna charge me £50 to put it on his vagcom for an hour but another garage said it wouldnt show up, he said same thing coil or dizzy. ive got a coil pack and its only a couple of bolts so its no bother to try this. Cheers for the advice this forums been sh!thot

vagcom for an hour? What's he gonna do sit there an hour bored? It takes 2 minutes to scan it.

ecu relay 167 if you have one?

30 is ecu relay, 67, 80 or 167 is the fuel pump, and yeah as above AGG does have a crank sensor :)
